Looking at the ever-increasing demand for online shopping, Amazon has planned to expand its offices in India. The company has leased about 2.8 million square feet of space in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai for the same.
Amazon’s new Chennai office will be in the Brigade World Trade Centre. Whereas, in Mumbai, the company has signed a long-term lease agreement for space at Godrej Two in Vikhroli suburbs.
According to sources aware of the deal between the company and some renowned real estate projects, looking at the immediate requirements Amazon has finalized properties across multiple locations. These properties are expected to be up and running in 2021.
Since the lockdown, this is the third such transaction by Amazon. Besides Chennai and Mumbai, the company has also finalized a 900,000 sq.ft. of office space in Bagmane Rio in Bengaluru.
According to sources, Amazon has plans to utilise their new office spaces and expand in India and cate to their global operations. The company believes India is a lucrative market to set up offices here keeping in view the cost arbitrage and a high-quality talent pool for MNCs.
The e-commerce giant Amazon already has over 10 million sq.ft. of office spaces in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Gurugram.
In the past three months, around 11 Million sq.ft. of commercial deals have been finalized and there are additional requests for proposals for another 8 million sq.ft. of office spaces.
Recently several large deals have been concluded across Indian cities by companies like Accenture, Morgan Stanley, Google, Microsoft, and Standard Chartered Bank.
