The recent Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Act of 2021 passed by Goa Legislative Assembly allows the self-occupied residents of the small residential unit of a state to live with respect, dignity and enjoy their right to life.
Maharashtra’s chief minister Mr. Pramod Sawant said that the bill passed during the tenure of the BJP Government for the regularisation of houses, granted home ownership to a lot of people.
He added that there are several lawsuits filed against people who do not actually own the houses they are residing in. The bill intends to benefit the Goa residents.
Sawant also mentioned that all houses with house numbers constructed prior to April 1, 2019, will be allotted ownership rights, which includes the houses made on encroached government land.
He also said that people who have been living in Goa for the past 30 years and haven’t got home ownership despite a house number, electricity, and running water connection under their names would be benefited from this action.
“Bhumiputra” refers to people who have been residing in Goa, at least for 30 years before the date of making application under Article 5 and own a residential unit and includes their spouse, son, daughters-in-law, and unmarried daughters. He added that the government will soon notify the rules.
