Maharashtra government has permitted pre-monsoon work by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other agencies allowing urgent pre-monsoon works. The government is focusing on the timely completion of pre-monsoon work in the city and state before the onset of monsoon.
The state government recently issued an amendment to the lockdown notifications, allowing urgent pre-monsoon works that include waterproofing and demolition of unsafe buildings.
As per the notification by the government, a sub-clause has been added in the revised lockdown notification issued on April 17th 2020, under which relaxations were announced. The urgent pre-monsoon work includes the protection of buildings, shuttering, waterproofing, flood protection, propping and structural repairs of the building, demolition of unsafe buildings.
Officials asserted that once the work has been allowed precautionary measures like wearing a mask and social distancing will have to be followed strictly at the construction site. The government had allowed movement of bedside attendees and care-givers of senior citizens residing at home. Moreover, Thane district collector recently ordered civic bodies to permit construction activities, hit by the lockdown, only with emergency pre-monsoon repairs conditionally.
The construction activities had completely come to a halt in the city after the PM’s announcement of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, with extreme precautions and safety measures, urgent monsoon work can be carried out. As per the guideline’s issued by BMC, construction work cannot be carried out in the containment zones and the workers from outside the city will not be permitted to work on these sites.
This order stated that permission to resume work will not be granted to new construction activity on existing sites. This order will be applicable to only non-containment zones declared by municipal corporations and councils in the district.
